SmartMarks AI ("SmartMarks" or "the Extension") is operated by POOGI Labs LLC. It is a Chrome extension for finding and organizing open tabs and bookmarks. This policy describes the data the Extension accesses, where it is processed, and the choices available to you.
To provide its core features, SmartMarks accesses:
SmartMarks uses this data to display and search bookmarks and tabs, detect duplicates, create tab groups, preview and apply bookmark organization, and create or restore Safety Snapshots. Local features process this information inside the Extension. SmartMarks does not request broad access to website content and does not read page DOM content, passwords, cookies, or form fields.
Settings are stored in chrome.storage.sync and may sync through your Chrome account if Chrome sync is enabled. Operational data and caches use Chrome local or session storage. Safety Snapshot content is stored locally in the Extension's IndexedDB database.
Find ranks bookmark and open-tab metadata locally. A tab's access timestamp means when it was last active in its window; it does not measure attention or time spent on a page. Missing timestamps are treated as unknown. Find does not send its query or search index to Cloud AI and does not use Chrome's browsing-history API. Typed searches are not automatically stored. Only searches you explicitly save are kept in Chrome local storage on that device; they are not placed in Chrome sync storage. The temporary search index is discarded when the panel closes.
Cloud AI is a premium feature for adults aged 18 or older in supported regions and requires explicit opt-in consent. SmartMarks asks you to confirm that you are at least 18 before enabling Cloud AI. It stores your acknowledgment and the consent version in Chrome local storage; it does not collect your date of birth or identity documents. Earlier consent must be renewed when the required consent version changes. When Cloud AI is enabled and you request a relevant action, SmartMarks may send:
The request travels over HTTPS through the SmartMarks Cloudflare Worker and is forwarded to the Google Gemini API. The Worker uses the request to authenticate access, check regional availability, apply limits, forward the AI request, and return the result. It uses the country inferred by Cloudflare from the connection IP address to check Gemini API availability. If the country is unavailable or unsupported, it rejects the request before contacting Gemini. This check does not require precise location access. SmartMarks does not intentionally persist request titles, URLs, or response content in the Worker. Under Google's paid Gemini API terms, Google does not use Gemini API prompts or responses to train its models. Cloudflare and Google otherwise process information as service providers under their applicable terms, privacy policies, security practices, and retention rules, which may include limited operational or abuse-prevention logging.
SmartMarks does not send bookmark folder hierarchy, page content, passwords, cookies, form data, or incognito tab data to Cloud AI. You can reject consent or disable Cloud AI in Settings and continue using local Smart Rules and, where supported, Chrome's on-device AI.
On supported Chrome devices, Chrome's built-in AI can process bookmark or tab titles and URLs locally. SmartMarks does not send those on-device AI prompts to the SmartMarks Worker or Google Gemini cloud API. Chrome's built-in AI is provided by Google as part of Chrome and is subject to Chrome's applicable terms and settings.
SmartMarks uses ExtensionPay for premium checkout, login, and entitlement status. ExtensionPay uses Stripe for payment processing. The ExtensionPay integration may process account information such as an email address and subscription or payment status. Stripe and ExtensionPay process checkout and payment records under their own policies. SmartMarks does not receive or store full payment-card numbers.
The manifest runs the packaged ExtensionPay content script only on https://extensionpay.com/* for these account, login, and checkout flows. Its narrowly scoped host permission also allows the background service worker to request entitlement status from ExtensionPay; it does not grant access to unrelated websites.
SmartMarks does not:
Chrome labels the tabs permission as access to browsing history because open-tab titles and URLs can reveal browsing activity. SmartMarks uses that permission for the currently open-tab features described above, not to read Chrome history.
| Service | Purpose | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome extension storage / IndexedDB | Settings, state, caches, consent, saved searches, and Safety Snapshots | Extension settings; explicitly saved query text and filters; bookmark snapshot data; cached results |
| Chrome built-in AI | Optional on-device categorization | Titles and URLs processed locally by Chrome |
| Cloudflare Workers | Authenticates, checks regional availability, rate-limits, and proxies opted-in Cloud AI requests | Relevant bookmark or eligible open-tab titles and URLs; IP-derived country and request metadata needed to operate and secure the service |
| Google Gemini API | Generates opted-in cloud categorization results | Relevant bookmark or eligible open-tab titles and URLs |
| ExtensionPay | Premium checkout, login, and entitlement status | Account identifiers such as email and subscription/payment status |
| Stripe | Payment processing for ExtensionPay | Billing and payment information entered during checkout |
Provider policies:
You can:
For account or payment records held by ExtensionPay or Stripe, contact the relevant provider or use the controls they make available.
SmartMarks uses information received from Chrome APIs only to provide and improve the user-facing tab, bookmark, snapshot, settings, payment-status, and optional AI features described in this policy. SmartMarks does not use or transfer Chrome API data for advertising, unrelated analytics, lending, or creditworthiness decisions. Transfers are limited to the service-provider flows described above and, for Cloud AI title/URL processing, require the user's explicit opt-in.
SmartMarks' use of Chrome API information is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
SmartMarks uses HTTPS for Cloud AI and ExtensionPay communications. The Cloud AI proxy validates requests and applies request-size and rate limits. No system can guarantee absolute security; report suspected security or privacy issues to the contact below.
SmartMarks is not directed to children under 13. Cloud AI is intended for adults aged 18 or older and requires an age acknowledgment; this is not identity or age verification. If you believe information from a child has been processed through a SmartMarks-operated service, contact us so we can investigate.
We may update this policy when features, providers, or data practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. Material changes will be described in store release information or an in-extension notice when appropriate.
